Rockland County legislators have unanimously approved $124,102 in state and federal funding to bolster the county’s emergency preparedness efforts. The funding, awarded through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and administered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Emergency Performance Grant, will support critical initiatives aimed at enhancing the county’s readiness for emergencies.
According to Chris Kear, the county’s director of fire and emergency services, the funds will be utilized for various essential tasks, including updating preparedness plans and conducting training exercises. The measure first passed through the Public Safety Committee, chaired by County Legislator Paul Cleary, before being adopted by the full board.
Legislator Cleary, who recently visited the county’s 911 emergency call center and met with Director Kear, emphasized the importance of the funding in maintaining public safety and preparedness across Rockland County.
