The Rockland County Fire Safety Officers Association announces with deep sorrow the passing of Rudy E. Hansen, a lifelong Pearl River resident and a pillar of the local fire service community. He passed away at the age of 92 following a brief illness.
Born in 1932 on Hansen Avenue in Pearl River, Rudy devoted more than seven decades to fire service. At just 16 years old, he joined the Pearl River Hook & Ladder Company, marking the beginning of a 73-year commitment to protecting and serving his community. Over the years, he held numerous key roles within the department, including Treasurer, President, Fire Police, and Commissioner of the Pearl River Fire District for 20 years. He also served as the company’s Chaplain, a position he embraced with deep faith and respect.
