Rockland County Man Convicted of Hobbs Act Robbery and Firearms Charge

A Rockland County man has been found guilty of participating in a violent home invasion robbery and firearms charge, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams announced today. Thierry Antoine, 34, of Spring Valley, was convicted in White Plains federal court following a five-day trial before U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Román.

Antoine’s conviction stems from a December 16, 2019, armed robbery in Chestnut Ridge, New York. Antoine and five accomplices targeted the residence of a known marijuana dealer, executing a premeditated attack that involved weapons such as a mini-bat, a knife, and a firearm.

Details of the Crime:
According to evidence presented during the trial, Antoine and his group forced their way into the residence, confronting a young man present at the time. The assailants physically assaulted the victim, shoving a firearm into his mouth with such force that it broke one of his teeth. The attackers tied up the victim before stealing cash, marijuana, high-end clothing, and shoes from the home.

Charges and Sentencing:
Antoine was convicted of three charges:

  1. Conspiracy to Commit Hobbs Act Robbery – Maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
  2. Hobbs Act Robbery – Maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
  3. Use, Carrying, and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Crime of Violence – Minimum sentence of 5 years and up to life in prison, to run consecutive to other charges.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 4, 2025. The minimum and maximum potential penalties for these charges are prescribed by Congress, with the final sentence to be determined by Judge Román.

Statement from U.S. Attorney Damian Williams:
“A unanimous jury has found that Thierry Antoine engaged in a violent gunpoint robbery, which included the brutal assault of an innocent victim. Thanks to the hard work of our career prosecutors and law enforcement partners, Antoine is now being held accountable for his actions.”

Acknowledgments:
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), along with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department and the Town of Ramapo Police Department, conducted the investigation that led to Antoine’s arrest and conviction.

The case is being prosecuted by the White Plains Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin L. Levander, Margaret N. Vasu, and Margery B. Feinzig handling the proceedings, assisted by Paralegal Specialist Shannon Becker.
