Rockland County Lights Up Green for Operation Green Light: Honoring Veterans and Raising Awareness of Their Challenges and Resources

In tribute to veterans, the County of Rockland’s Allison-Parris Building on New Hempstead Rd. in New City and Building A in the Pomona Health Complex off Route 45 is lit green for Operation Green Light from November 4th through the 13th.

Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and their families, and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

By shining a green light, the County of Rockland is showing residents our veterans are seen, appreciated, and supported. Operation Green Light is a collaboration between the New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC), National Association of Counties (NACo), the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO) and the Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Program at BRIDGES.

“We thank all our veterans for something often taken for granted – our freedom,” said County Executive Ed Day. “For all who chose to serve and protect our liberties, we hope our participation in Operation Green Light serves as a reminder that we do not take your sacrifice lightly.”

“I think that anytime our veterans can feel like they are not alone it is a powerful and worthwhile message,” said Susan Branam, Director of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency. “My hope is that all the County is lit up with green lights this Veterans Day week, so the message is loud and clear that this community supports our heroes.”

By shining a green light, we are letting our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
