Rockland County Legislature Approves Walking Path at Lake Suzanne, Spearheaded by Legislator and Assemblyman-Elect Aron Wieder

In a unanimous decision, the Rockland County Legislature approved contracts to construct a new walking path at Lake Suzanne in Monsey, marking a significant step toward creating a serene, family-friendly park setting.

“I listened carefully to the residents around Lake Suzanne, and their request was clear: they wanted the area beautified to provide families and neighbors with a welcoming space to visit,” said Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder. “I’m thrilled to announce that we’re moving forward with a project that will achieve those goals and enhance accessibility for everyone.”

The $2 million project, funded through the federal American Rescue Plan Act via Rockland County’s Urban Green Space Grant Program, includes a newly constructed boardwalk featuring seating areas over the water for visitors to relax and enjoy the scenic views. Additional benches will be strategically placed along the boardwalk to further enhance the experience.

Following a public bidding process, the Legislature awarded approximately $1.8 million to ADP Group Inc. of New Jersey to carry out the construction of the Lake Suzanne Walking Path.

Rockland County Legislator Phil Soskin emphasized the importance of green spaces, particularly in light of lessons learned during the pandemic. “Access to green spaces became crucial during the pandemic, and even before that, we recognized the need for improvements at Lake Suzanne,” Soskin said. “This project has been a priority for both Legislator Wieder and me for a long time, and it’s rewarding to see it finally coming to fruition.”

The area previously saw enhancements in 2022 with the installation of a modernized dam meeting updated safety standards.

“These upgrades to Lake Suzanne will offer a tranquil retreat for residents, providing a beautiful setting to enjoy peaceful moments by the water,” Legislator Soskin added.

Both Wieder and Soskin expressed gratitude to their colleagues in the Legislature, the County Executive’s office, and all who contributed to bringing this project to life. The walking path promises to be a cherished addition to the community, enhancing the quality of life for families and visitors alike.
