Rockland County Legislators Celebrate New Office for the Aging Facility and Highlight Vital Services for Seniors

Several Rockland County legislators joined the celebration at the new county Office for the Aging facility to help increase awareness about the many vital services offered by the busy agency.

County Legislator Phil Soskin, a senior himself, praised the move to the larger location.
“The Office for the Aging is a vital link to many services and just as importantly, to the opportunity for seniors to socialize with their contemporaries,” Legislator Soskin said. “They offer many programs and if they don’t offer something specific themselves, they will find the partner agency that does and connect you.”

He added that OFA can provide information about health care, transportation services, job training, caregiver services, exercise programs and personal enrichment classes, among other services.

“If you just want to take a class to learn more about today’s technology or to be among other people your age facing the same issues you may be facing as you age, the Office for the Aging can help,” Legislator Soskin said.

Legislator Soskin, along with County Legislators Beth Davidson, Doug Jobson, Ray Sheridan, Dana Stilley and Aron Wieder joined the County Executive and Office for the Aging Director Cheryl Dean Ward for the ceremony.

The Office for the Aging relocated to Building F on the campus of the Dr. Robert L. Yeger Health Complex in Ramapo several months ago. The new location is larger, allowing programs and services to be delivered in an updated space.
Rockland County legislators have approved more than $2.9 million for capital projects work at Building F.

According to OFA, there are more than 65,000 people in Rockland County over the age of 60. OFA helps  older residents and their families get information about programs available to them directly through OFA or a partner organization. All programs are designed to maintain maximum independence in the home and to provide employment and volunteer activities. The office’s main focus is to provide advocacy by and for seniors.

The Rockland County Office for the Aging is located in Building F at the Yeager Health Complex, 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona. Please call the office at 845-364-2110 or 845-364-2100. You can also visit https://www.rocklandcountyny.gov/departments/office-for-the-aging for more information.
