Rockland County Launches Portable Meal Program to Support Food-Insecure Seniors

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Office for the Aging (OFA) Director Cheryl Ward have officially launched a new Portable Meal Program aimed at combating food insecurity among older adults in underserved areas. The initiative, announced Monday, will provide five nutritionally balanced meals each week to eligible seniors in Spring Valley, Haverstraw, and Nyack. Meals will be prepared and delivered by Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland.

“I commend our Office for the Aging for developing and implementing this important program,” said County Executive Day. “Food-insecure older residents now have another reliable way to access healthy meals in their communities.”

The program will be facilitated through local partners, including the Martin Luther King Multi-Purpose Center in Spring Valley, the Central Presbyterian Church in Haverstraw, and the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nyack, helping to identify eligible residents and streamline meal distribution.

“We are excited to collaborate with Meals on Wheels Rockland and our valued community agencies,” said OFA Director Ward. “Establishing a presence in these underserved areas will allow OFA to reach residents who need these meals the most.”

Eligible individuals must register through one of the participating partner organizations. For more information, contact the Rockland County Office for the Aging at (845) 364-2110 or email ofa@co.rockland.ny.us.
