Rockland County officials are urging residents to remain alert to warning signs that could indicate a risk of targeted violence, emphasizing that early recognition and intervention can help prevent incidents before they occur.
According to the county, targeted violence is often preceded by identifiable behaviors. These red flags may include social isolation or withdrawal, fixation or obsession with violence, weapons, or personal grievances, verbal or written threats, active planning or research of potential targets or tools, and sudden or uncharacteristic changes in behavior such as increased aggression or paranoia.
County officials stress that community awareness plays a critical role in prevention. Residents who observe concerning behaviors are encouraged not to ignore the signs and to take action by reporting concerns.
The Rockland County Threat Assessment Management Team (RC-TAM) brings together law enforcement, mental health professionals, and other partners to assess reported concerns and intervene when necessary to reduce risks and enhance public safety.
More information about RC-TAM’s collaborative approach is available at rctam.org. Concerns can be reported directly to RC-TAM by calling 845-708-7400.
