Rockland County officials are urging residents to prepare for a significant winter storm expected to impact the area from Friday, December 26, through Saturday, December 27, with potentially hazardous conditions.
Ed Day, alongside Highway Superintendent Charles “Skip” Vezzetti, warned that the storm could bring heavy snowfall and dangerous travel conditions across the county. According to forecasts from the National Weather Service, snowfall totals could reach up to 8.6 inches in some areas.
Officials say the storm may lead to difficult travel, downed trees, power outages, and possible blizzard-like conditions. Residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain off the roads whenever possible to allow highway crews to work efficiently and safely.
“The key to keeping our roads clear is having as many cars off of them as possible during the storm,” Day said. “We’re asking residents to stay off the roads and avoid unnecessary travel at all costs.”
County officials also reminded residents to be prepared for potential power outages. Customers of Orange and Rockland Utilities are encouraged to report outages promptly using one of the following methods:
- Online at the O&R outage reporting page
- Through the O&R mobile app on iPhone, iPad, or Android devices
- By texting “OUT” to 69678 (myORU)
- By calling 1-877-434-4100
