Rockland County has taken a significant step towards strengthening its emergency response infrastructure with the approval of substantial grant funding. Announced by County Executive Ed Day and Chris Kear, the Director of Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services, the county has been awarded over $324,000 to enhance its firefighting training and emergency management capabilities.
A highlight of the funding is a $200,000 grant dedicated to establishing a Mobile Training Gallery at the Fire Training Center. This cutting-edge facility, centered around a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SBCA) Maze Trailer Unit, is designed to provide volunteer firefighters with immersive training in critical safety procedures. The curriculum will cover essential skills such as conducting searches in hazardous conditions, self-extrication techniques, and procedures for rescuing fellow firefighters, ensuring they are well-prepared for real-life emergencies.
In addition, Rockland County has received a $124,102 Emergency Management Performance Grant aimed at bolstering its readiness for all-hazard emergencies, with a particular emphasis on the increasing threats posed by climate change. This funding will support efforts to enhance the county’s emergency preparedness and response strategies, ensuring that both personnel and residents are better equipped to handle natural disasters and other emergency situations.
County Executive Ed Day expressed his commitment to the safety and security of Rockland County residents, stating that these grants are crucial for building a resilient community capable of facing any emergency. Director Chris Kear echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of continuous training and preparedness to maintain high standards of emergency response.
