Rockland County GOP Chairman Faces DUI Charges After Traffic Stop

Lawrence Garvey, 57, Chairman of the Rockland County Republican Party, was arrested on December 3, 2023, following a traffic stop on Interstate 287 for a malfunctioning taillight. State troopers reported smelling alcohol on Garvey’s breath and subjected him to field sobriety tests, which he failed due to slurred speech, lack of balance, and bloodshot eyes.

Garvey, who was returning from a political event, refused to take a Breathalyzer test at the trooper barracks. As a result, he was arraigned in January in the Village of Elmsford Justice Court, where his driver’s license was suspended for his refusal.
