Fire departments from Rockland County, including units from Hillcrest, Blauvelt, Pearl River, New City, West Haverstraw, Central Nyack, Vanuet, Piermont, and Suffern, are deploying tonight to Greenwood Lake in Orange County. They join a large team of first responders working tirelessly to protect structures and contain a growing brush fire threatening the area.
In a public update, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus described the situation as increasingly dire. “Things in Greenwood Lake have gotten difficult,” he reported in a statement. “With the winds picking up, conditions are more challenging, and we’re asking residents of Cliff Road to voluntarily evacuate, with others urged to be prepared.”
Local officials, including the mayor of Greenwood Lake and the town supervisor, are on-site and collaborating with volunteer firefighters, police, and other emergency teams. The Park Service has initiated controlled burns to create fire breaks, attempting to prevent further spread into residential areas. State resources and federal support have been requested to strengthen the response as crews brace for a long night ahead.
“This is a difficult situation, but we’re here until it’s under control,” Neuhaus emphasized, encouraging residents to stay updated through local government Facebook pages for real-time developments.
The community is asked to keep first responders, homeowners, and residents in their thoughts as crews work through the night to protect lives and property in Greenwood Lake.
