Rockland County firefighters continued their intensive training this past weekend, focusing on lifesaving techniques designed to protect their own.
Following last week’s self-removal drills—where firefighters learned how to escape dangerous situations on their own—the latest session emphasized teamwork and specialized rescue operations. The training centered around Rapid Intervention Teams (RITs), specialized units dedicated solely to firefighter safety.
These teams act as a critical safety net for crews working inside burning buildings. Their sole mission is to respond immediately if a firefighter becomes trapped, injured, or in need of emergency assistance.
Officials stressed that RIT preparedness is a cornerstone of modern firefighting, ensuring that every firefighter has backup ready to step in at a moment’s notice.
