Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association Honors Troopers for Fiery Palisades Parkway Rescue

The Rockland County Fire Chiefs Association honored New York State Troopers Derick Macaulay and Peter Pjetri this month for their extraordinary bravery and life-saving actions on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

On September 14, 2025, the two Troopers arrived at the scene of a serious crash on the Parkway and found a driver trapped inside a burning vehicle. Acting without hesitation, they sprang into action, pulling the victim from the flames moments before the car became fully engulfed. Their quick thinking, courage, and unwavering dedication ensured the driver survived and ultimately returned home to his family.

During the Association’s November meeting, Troopers Macaulay and Pjetri were formally recognized for their heroic response. Officials praised their fast, decisive actions, noting that their willingness to risk their own lives to save another exemplifies the highest standards of public service.
