Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco are urging residents to remain calm after at least four drone sightings were reported flying over Rockland County and into New Jersey late Thursday evening.
“We understand that these drone sightings may be unsettling and are taking these reports seriously,” said County Executive Ed Day. “In addition to notifying federal authorities, I am sending a letter to President Joe Biden, urging him to direct the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate and provide answers regarding the source of these drone activities.”
The incident marks the first drone sighting in Rockland County amid a broader pattern of drone activity reported across New Jersey and parts of New York City since November. The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious drone activity they observe.
“We are asking all county residents: if you see something, say something,” emphasized County Sheriff Louis Falco. “Once 911 is contacted, officers from the local jurisdiction and the sheriff’s office will be dispatched to investigate. All incidents will be documented and reported to federal authorities.”
County officials have pledged to continue monitoring the situation and to keep the public informed as new information emerges.
“The fact that this issue has persisted for weeks without clear answers is completely unacceptable—not just to the people of Rockland County, but to communities across the nation,” County Executive Day stated. “It’s time for the federal government to step up, take responsibility, and provide the answers we all deserve.”
