County Executive Ed Day is recognizing National Police Week, observed from May 11 through May 17, by honoring the service and sacrifice of Rockland County’s law enforcement officers.
“As a former Police Commander, Police Week holds a deeply personal significance for me,” Day said. “It’s a time to honor the courageous men and women who risk their lives every day to protect our communities and to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to recognize the dedication and heroism of law enforcement officers across the nation. It also serves to support their families and colleagues, especially those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
County officials are encouraging residents throughout Rockland to take time during the week to thank local law enforcement and reflect on the sacrifices made to keep communities safe.
