The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office announced the addition of K9 Remy, the first certified electronics detection dog in the county’s history. K9 Remy, a one-year-old black lab born in Holland, and her handler, Detective Tim Hayes, have completed an intensive training program to become a qualified electronics detection team.
Detective Tim Hayes brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served as a U.S. Army Paratrooper and a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom. Before joining the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Hayes spent a decade as a NYPD Detective.
K9 Remy is specifically trained to locate electronic devices such as laptops, cellphones, SD cards, and USB drives that may contain explicit and illegal content. There are approximately 100 electronic detection K9s in the entire country, highlighting the significance of this addition to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.
In 2020, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office became a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The mission of ICAC is to identify individuals online who attempt to lure children for inappropriate behavior or disseminate child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Protecting innocent children from sexual predators is a top priority for the Office.
K9 Remy is named in honor of Rockland County resident and 9/11 civilian hero Welles Remy Crowther. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office expresses deep gratitude to the Crowther family for their blessing and is committed to honoring Welles’ legacy through K9 Remy’s work.
