The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office hosted a Science-Based Interviewing Course this week, bringing together law-enforcement professionals from across the tri-state region for advanced training in ethical and research-driven interviewing practices. The course was facilitated by seasoned instructors who have trained individuals from U.S. military Special Operations, the intelligence community, the NYPD, LAPD, the Manhattan DA’s Office, and numerous agencies around the world.
The program introduced participants to a structured, victim- and witness-centered interviewing approach designed to improve communication with victims, witnesses, informants, community members, and subjects. Through guided discussions and practical exercises, attendees learned planning techniques, rapport-based strategies, and open-ended questioning methods proven to increase cooperation and yield more accurate, verifiable information.
Professionals from 12 agencies attended the training, including the New York County DA, Bronx County DA, the NYS Office of the Inspector General, NYC Environmental Protection, the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, the New Jersey State Police, Haverstraw Police Department, Ramapo Police Department, Orangetown Police Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, Clarkstown Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.
The District Attorney’s Office thanked all participating agencies for joining the effort to strengthen these critical skills and enhance the quality of investigations across the region.
