Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh Appoints James McNamee as New DA Detective Lieutenant

In a significant addition to the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, Lt. James McNamee has been appointed as the new Detective Lieutenant. The announcement came from District Attorney Tom Walsh, marking a pivotal step in enhancing law enforcement leadership within the county. The oath of office was administered by Rockland County Clerk Donna Silberman, signifying the commencement of Lt. McNamee’s duties in his new role.

A native of the Village of Haverstraw, Lt. McNamee’s roots run deep within the community. His educational journey began at St. Peter’s Elementary School in Haverstraw, followed by graduation from St. Joseph Regional HS in Montvale, NJ. He further pursued his studies at Rockland Community College in Suffern, showcasing his commitment to education and personal development.

However, his calling to serve in law enforcement saw him leave Rockland Community College to join the NYPD Police Academy, from which he graduated in 1991. His initial assignment was at the 47th precinct in the Bronx, laying the foundation for his distinguished career in policing.

In 1997, James McNamee’s path led him back to his roots when he was hired by the Village of Haverstraw PD. The merger of the Village and Town police departments in 2006 saw him transition to a town police officer, further expanding his breadth of experience. His leadership skills were recognized in 2013 with a promotion to Sergeant, a role in which he served with distinction, often during the challenging midnight shifts.

Lt. McNamee’s commitment to the community and his colleagues was evident during his tenure as the Town of Haverstraw PBA President, a position he held for six years. His recent retirement from the Town of Haverstraw Police Department marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in his career with the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

Bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, Lt. McNamee is poised to play a crucial role in the District Attorney’s mission to ensure the safety and security of Rockland County’s residents. His extensive background in law enforcement and deep connections to the community are invaluable assets that will undoubtedly contribute to the success of the District Attorney’s Office in its endeavors to uphold justice and public safety.
