Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that on January 7, 2026, Angel Mendoza-Raymundo, 30, of Suffern, pleaded guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree and Driving While Intoxicated before the Honorable Kevin F. Russo.
The charges stem from a fatal incident on August 16, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m., when a white Toyota Corolla driven by Mendoza-Raymundo struck a 73-year-old pedestrian on Lafayette Avenue in the Village of Suffern. The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Prosecutors said Mendoza-Raymundo was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was apprehended approximately a half mile from the scene in the area of Clinton Place. His actions ultimately caused the death of the pedestrian.
Mendoza-Raymundo is scheduled to be sentenced on April 8, 2026, to an indeterminate term of 2⅓ to 7 years in state prison.
The case was investigated by the Village of Suffern Police Department with assistance from the Town of Ramapo Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant District Attorney Meghan Garvey.
“The defendant’s reckless decision to drive under the influence took an innocent life,” District Attorney Walsh said. “Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family, and we hope this brings them a measure of accountability and closure.”
