Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Keimoni Spinks, 27, of Spring Valley, was convicted on felony gun charges following a five-day bench trial in Rockland County Court.
Spinks was found guilty on January 20, 2026, before Judge Kevin F. Russo, of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.
According to prosecutors, the case stems from a July 29, 2024 incident, when a Ramapo Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessively tinted windows at approximately 11:45 a.m. Spinks, who was seated in the front passenger seat, fled the vehicle on foot while the driver remained at the scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun inside a bag located on the front passenger-side floor. The firearm contained seven rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber.
Video surveillance captured Spinks fleeing from the vehicle, and he was later identified by a Spring Valley Police officer. Authorities noted that Spinks was on parole at the time for a 2018 felony conviction in Orange County for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Spinks was later apprehended at a hotel in Spring Valley and taken into custody. Forensic evidence later confirmed that his DNA was present on the bag containing the firearm.
Following the verdict, Spinks was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail. Sentencing is scheduled for April 22, 2026.
“I praise the combined efforts of the law enforcement involved in this case and prosecutors in my office,” District Attorney Walsh said. “My office remains committed to prosecuting illegal gun possession and holding repeat violent offenders accountable to protect the safety of Rockland County residents.”
The investigation was conducted by the Ramapo Police Department and the Spring Valley Police Department, with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police Laboratory, and the Forensic Investigation Center. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Melissa Fabi and Michael Thompson.
