Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced Wednesday that Keimoni Spinks, 27, of Spring Valley, has been sentenced to nine years in state prison following his second felony gun conviction.
Spinks was sentenced in Rockland County Court before Judge Kevin F. Russo after being convicted on January 20, 2026, of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree following a five-day bench trial.
He was sentenced to nine years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, on the second-degree weapons charge. He also received a sentence of 3½ to seven years on the third-degree weapons charge, with both sentences to run concurrently.
The case stems from a July 29, 2024 traffic stop conducted by a Ramapo Police officer at approximately 11:45 a.m. Police stopped a vehicle for excessively tinted windows, and Spinks, who was seated in the front passenger seat, fled from the vehicle on foot while the driver remained at the scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led officers to recover a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun inside a bag on the floor of the front passenger side. The firearm contained seven rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber.
Surveillance video captured Spinks fleeing from the vehicle, and a Spring Valley Police officer later identified him. At the time, Spinks was on parole for a 2018 felony conviction in Orange County for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Spinks had been sentenced to six years in prison in that case on June 14, 2018, and was released to parole on May 28, 2024, just two months before the Rockland County incident.
Authorities later located Spinks at a hotel in Spring Valley and took him into custody. Prosecutors said DNA evidence subsequently confirmed that Spinks’ DNA was present on the bag containing the firearm.
“This defendant, while on parole for a previous felony gun conviction, again made a choice to illegally possess a firearm in Rockland County which will not be tolerated,” Walsh said. “My office remains committed to prosecuting illegal gun possession and holding repeat violent offenders accountable to protect the safety of Rockland County residents.”
The investigation was conducted by the Ramapo Police Department and Spring Valley Police Department, with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center.
