Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Blanchard Glaudin, 31, homeless, has been found to lack the capacity to understand the proceedings against him due to mental disease or defect. The determination was made by the Honorable Djinsad Desir in Rockland County Court in connection with the February 18, 2020 killing of Finkelstein Library security guard Sandra Wilson.
On February 26, 2026, Judge Desir ordered that Glaudin be remanded to the custody of the Commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health for care and treatment at an appropriate secure facility designated by the Commissioner.
Glaudin previously pleaded guilty on December 9, 2025, to the sole count of the indictment, Murder in the Second Degree, before Judge Desir in Rockland County Court. During his plea, the defendant admitted that on February 18, 2020, at approximately 2:00 p.m., while inside the Finkelstein Library in Spring Valley, he stabbed Sandra Wilson multiple times in the chest and body with a knife, causing her death.
“The People recommended 25 years to life in state prison and the Court promised 20. Although sentencing did not proceed today as scheduled, this individual will not be returning to our streets,” said District Attorney Walsh. “The defendant will remain confined in a secure facility where he cannot pose a danger to others.”
The investigation was conducted by the Spring Valley Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Dominic Crispino.
