Rockland County DA Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Richard Campbell, 40, of South Carolina, was arraigned in Rockland County Court on an indictment charging him with multiple felony weapons offenses.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Campbell faces two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
Prosecutors allege that on December 23, 2025, at approximately 10:43 p.m., officers from the Town of Haverstraw Police Department conducted a traffic stop of Campbell’s vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly recovered two 9mm handguns, including one with a loaded 17-round magazine and another with three loaded magazines, each with a capacity of 17 rounds. Authorities further allege that a search of Campbell’s person yielded a live 9mm round.
“The removal of two firearms and multiple large-capacity magazines from Rockland County underscores why these encounters are taken seriously,” District Attorney Walsh said, praising the officers involved for their professionalism.
The investigation was conducted by the Town of Haverstraw Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Thompson and Assistant District Attorney Sean Burke.
