Rockland County Clarifies Public Comment Period for Envision Rockland Comprehensive Plan

Editor’s Note: Monsey Scoop is issuing the following correction to its July 14 article, “Public Comment Period Opens for Proposed Ramapo Rail Trail Project.”

Rockland County officials have clarified that the current public comment period is not for a standalone Ramapo Rail Trail project. Rather, it pertains to Envision Rockland, the County’s draft Comprehensive Plan Update.

While the draft Comprehensive Plan includes a recommendation supporting the potential reuse of abandoned rail corridors for shared-use paths that could accommodate bicycle, pedestrian, and, where appropriate, transit needs, County officials emphasize that there is no Ramapo Rail Trail project currently underway and no public comment period specific to such a project.

The Final Draft of the Envision Rockland Comprehensive Plan reflects months of collaboration and public engagement with residents, community organizations, municipal leaders, stakeholders, and members of the project’s Working Group. According to the County, the feedback received throughout the planning process helped shape a comprehensive vision for Rockland County’s future.

The public comment period for the draft plan began on July 14, 2026, and will remain open through August 4, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft plan and submit written comments by email to RCPlan@co.rockland.ny.us. The draft plan is available for review at www.EnvisionRockland.com.

A final opportunity for public input will take place before the Rockland County Legislature on Tuesday, August 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Allison-Parris County Office Building in New City.
