Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Probation Director Joseph DiCarlo are excited to announce the County’s celebration of Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week (PPPS Week) from July 21 to July 27. This annual event honors the dedicated work of community corrections professionals who play a crucial role in maintaining community safety.
Community corrections professionals manage individuals convicted of crimes outside of jail or prison, operating under agencies or courts with the legal authority to enforce sanctions. Their responsibilities include probation, community correctional supervision, parole—which involves conditional supervised release from prison—and pretrial services.
The Rockland County Probation Department prioritizes offender accountability, community protection, offender rehabilitation, and family preservation. Services offered by the department include preparing pre-sentence, pre-disposition, and custody investigations; filing civil petitions for custody, visitation, and family offenses; supervising adult offenders and juveniles classified as delinquent; and providing diversion services to children and families to avoid court involvement and detention.
The County is proud to have a dedicated team of nearly 50 men and women in the Probation Department. These professionals drive positive change by providing appropriate supervision and services to those in need at the right time.
The probation department is vital in intervening in the lives of victims, juveniles, and adults under supervision. Through effective interventions, supervision, and programming, they aim to correct negative behaviors and foster positive, productive actions, ultimately reducing recidivism.
