Rockland County Burn Ban Set to Expire Thanks to Recent Rainfall

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Fire and Emergency Services Director Chris Kear have announced that the temporary burn ban, enacted due to dry conditions, will expire this week. The decision follows a period of much-needed rainfall that has significantly reduced the risk of wildfires.

“Thanks to the much-needed rain, conditions have improved enough to allow our burn ban to expire,” said County Executive Ed Day. The decision to lift the ban was made after the County Office of Fire and Emergency Services assessed the situation and confirmed that recent precipitation had sufficiently alleviated fire danger levels.

However, Director Chris Kear reminded residents that the New York State burn ban remains in effect until November 30. “The state burn ban prohibits outdoor fires for brush and debris disposal, as well as uncontained campfires and open fires used for cooking,” Kear explained.

Residents are encouraged to remain cautious and adhere to the state’s ongoing restrictions. For more details on the New York State burn ban, visit Governor Hochul’s website.
