Rockland County Announces Community Gun Buyback Event

In a continued effort to prioritize community safety, Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco III has unveiled plans for a significant community gun buyback event. The event is set to take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Residents can participate at the Town of Orangetown Municipal Building located at 65 Brookside Ave, Nyack, NY 10960.

This initiative is not a solo effort. The event is being collaboratively held with a range of notable partners including the Orangetown Police Department, the New York State Police, the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office, and all local law enforcement agencies.

For those looking to participate, the process has been designed to ensure ease and anonymity. Guns can be turned in without any identification, and participants won’t have to answer any questions regarding the firearms. In return for surrendered weapons, participants will receive pre-paid gift cards, with the value determined by the type of gun:

  • Assault Rifles: $250.00
  • Handguns: $150.00
  • Rifles or Shotguns: $75.00
  • Non-Working or Antique Guns: $25.00

Safety remains paramount. Individuals transporting firearms to the event must ensure they are unloaded and safely stowed in the trunk of their vehicles. It should be noted that licensed gun dealers and those who are active or retired members of law enforcement are not eligible to participate in this program.

For a more detailed overview, interested parties are encouraged to consult the event’s attached flyer. Sheriff Louis Falco is also available for further comments and can be reached at (845) 638-5466 for any inquiries related to the buyback event.
