The Rockland County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) is receiving $195,000 from the New York State Department of Labor Senator Bill Weber announced today. The funding will allow 30 students to enter the NYS Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs for underrepresented populations including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.
The RA program focuses on individuals seeking workforce development allowing them to enter the construction and electrical career fields. The program curriculum was designed in collaboration with industry professionals, ensuring that it remains current and relevant to the needs of employers in the construction and electrical trades.
“Skilled tradesmen earn excellent salaries and benefits and this critical funding for the RA training program provides a great opportunity for underrepresented Rockland County residents interested in bettering their lives by working in the construction and electrical trades,” said State Senator Bill Weber.
This program will be offered as a Rockland BOCES Adult Education course at no cost to participants. Participants will have access to career planning, wrap-around services, and personalized internal and external resources such as tutoring, assistance with identifying resources for transportation and childcare, English as a Second Language instruction, employment, and career assistance that will support their success in the program and into an apprenticeship program.
