Residents along Route 202 from Montebello to Pomona have long awaited the establishment of an Eruv to ease their lives each Shabbos. This need may soon be addressed, thanks to the unwavering advocacy of Senator Bill Weber and his dedicated staff. Senator Weber has consistently demonstrated a commitment to addressing the needs of all residents and has been a staunch champion for religious liberty.
The progress began when local Askan Heshy Jay reached out to Morty Becker in Senator Weber’s office, leading to an incredible chain of events. Remarkably, Senator Weber already had a meeting scheduled with the CEO of O&R the following week on an unrelated matter. This timely encounter paved the way for further discussions. Following Senator Weber’s meeting with the CEO, he met with a large group of residents, Rabbi Steinmetz, and Askan Hershel Rosenberg. Senator Weber then arranged a critical meeting in his office between the leadership of O&R and Rockland Eruv. Askan Sinai Halberstam also attended this crucial meeting, lending his support and insights.
One of the challenges identified by O&R was that the optimal route for the Eruv would pass through New York State Parkland. Senator Weber’s team is actively working with state officials to address this issue. Meanwhile, O&R is graciously reviewing innovative solutions proposed by the Rov, such as using plastic piping, to safely navigate the presence of high power lines.
With Senator Weber’s steadfast advocacy and the collaborative efforts of all parties involved, the residents of Route 202 remain hopeful that an Eruv may soon be established in the area, greatly enhancing the quality of life for the community.
