Ramapo Police detectives concluded an investigation that led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a 23-year-old male suspect involved in multiple thefts. The investigation was sparked by a report on February 14, 2024, of a 2021 Nissan being unlawfully removed from the parking lot of a mechanic shop in the Village of Airmont.
The diligent efforts of the detectives allowed them to not only locate the stolen vehicle but also connect the suspect to an additional theft at the Walmart on Route 59, occurring just hours before the car theft. This swift and effective investigative work underscores the department’s commitment to combating crime and safeguarding community members’ property.
The breakthrough in the case came on February 15th, when the NYPD arrested the suspect, who was still in possession of the stolen Nissan. Following the arrest, Ramapo detectives took custody of the suspect, facing open charges related to both incidents.
The owner of the stolen vehicle expressed relief upon its return, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Ramapo Police and the NYPD. The charges filed against the suspect include Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, a felony, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Petit Larceny, both misdemeanors, highlighting the seriousness of the crimes committed.
After being arraigned, the suspect was issued an Appearance Ticket, setting the stage for a future court appearance where the legal consequences of these criminal actions will be addressed.
