The Town of Ramapo Police Department has announced the promotion of Officer Valerie Mendez to the rank of Detective, recognizing her years of dedicated service and commitment to the community.
Detective Mendez began her law enforcement career in 2008 as an intern with the New York State Attorney General’s Office. She advanced to the role of Investigator in 2013, and in 2014 graduated from the Rockland County Police Academy, becoming a certified police officer. She continued her work with the Attorney General’s Office in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit until 2017, when she joined the Ramapo Police Department.
During her tenure with Ramapo Police, Detective Mendez has taken on a wide range of roles, including Field Training Officer, Adopt-a-Cop participant, Bike Patrol Officer, Peer Support Officer, Social Media Editor, Car Seat Technician, and Academy Instructor. She also serves as a crisis negotiator with the Rockland County REACT Team.
Police officials praised her professionalism, dedication, and leadership, noting that her experience and commitment have earned her a position within the department’s Investigations Division.
Detective Mendez is expected to continue making a strong impact in her new role.
