On June 7, 2024, at 4:52 AM, officers from the Town of Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to Helen Court in the Hillcrest area following multiple reports of a man yelling and breaking glass outside a house. Upon arrival, officers identified 44-year-old Ovidio Aguilar-Oliva, who matched the description provided by witnesses.
Officers found that the front door of the home had been kicked in, and a side window was smashed. Aguilar-Oliva, who appeared intoxicated and had a minor laceration, allegedly sustained the injury while attempting to enter the house.
When officers approached, Aguilar-Oliva became combative, resulting in a physical altercation. Two officers were injured during the confrontation, including one who suffered a dislocated shoulder. Both officers received treatment at Good Samaritan Hospital. Aguilar-Oliva’s only injury was the self-inflicted laceration.
Further investigation revealed that Aguilar-Oliva resides at the home, which he does not own. He was reportedly too intoxicated to unlock the door and resorted to breaking in, alarming other residents and neighbors.
Aguilar-Oliva faces several charges: Assault in the Second Degree (a Class D Felony), Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (a Class E Felony), Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (a Class A Misdemeanor), and Resisting Arrest (a Class A Misdemeanor). He was arraigned in the Town of Ramapo Justice Court, where bail was set at $50,000. Aguilar-Oliva is currently held at Rockland County Jail pending a future court appearance.
Authorities remind the public that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
