Ramapo Police Named ‘Department of the Year’ in New York State for DWI Enforcement

The Ramapo Police Department has been awarded the prestigious Department of the Year Award by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and STOP-DWI New York, in partnership with the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the Division of Criminal Justice Services.

The award was presented this week at the 2025 Annual New York State Law Enforcement Recognition Event, which honors law enforcement officers and agencies across the state for their outstanding commitment to combating drunk and drugged driving.

Among those recognized was Ramapo Police Officer John Genito, who received the Recognition of Excellence Award for his exceptional work in DWI enforcement. This marks the second time Officer Genito has been honored for his efforts in this vital area of public safety.

The Ramapo Police Department earned top distinction in the 101–250 officer category, reflecting the department’s strong dedication to enforcement, education, and outreach initiatives aimed at reducing impaired driving and keeping the community safe.

This statewide recognition highlights the continued efforts of Ramapo’s officers in protecting the public from the dangers of impaired driving
