In the early hours of July 4th Ramapo Police conducting a routine midnight patrol in the Hillcrest area pulled over a vehicle for multiple violations, including inoperable lights and a suspended registration. What began as a standard traffic stop quickly escalated into a major arrest.
Officers discovered a loaded .25-caliber handgun, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and other contraband inside the vehicle. The driver — a 46-year-old woman from Spring Valley — was immediately taken into custody.
She now faces multiple charges, including criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, and various vehicle and traffic law violations.
Following her arraignment, the suspect was released on her own recognizance in accordance with current bail reform laws.
Authorities say the arrest underscores the Ramapo Police Department’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal firearms and narcotics, and to keep the community safe.

How is the community safe when she is released on her own recognizance ?
