Ramapo Police K9 Otto and Officer Mike Simpson Earn Narcotics Detection Certification

The Town of Ramapo Police Department announced that K9 Otto and his handler, Officer Mike Simpson, have successfully completed the first phase of K9 training and are now fully certified in narcotics detection.

According to the department, the K9 team will continue advanced training in the coming months and is expected to obtain additional certifications in tracking and apprehension, further strengthening the department’s operational capabilities.

The Ramapo Police Department currently operates three K9 units—two trained in explosive detection and one specializing in narcotics—enhancing public safety and law enforcement effectiveness throughout the town. Department officials expressed appreciation to Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht and the Town Board for their continued support of the K9 program.

The department also thanked AKC Reunite for providing funding toward the purchase of K9 Otto, helping bring another highly trained four-legged officer into service for the Ramapo community.
