The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) has announced that law enforcement agencies across New York State will intensify efforts to combat speeding during Speed Awareness Week, running from Monday, August 4 through Sunday, August 10, 2025.
As part of this statewide initiative, the Ramapo Police Department will ramp up enforcement targeting speeding and aggressive driving in addition to routine patrols. The campaign aims to reduce avoidable crashes and raise awareness about the dangers of excessive speed on the roads.
According to the GTSC, speed remains a leading factor in traffic-related fatalities across New York. In 2024 alone, 31% of all fatal crashes were attributed to speeding, resulting in 329 deaths and 2,361 serious injuries. The risk increases during the summer months, with nearly half of speed-related fatal and personal injury crashes occurring between noon and 6:00 p.m.
“Speeding endangers not only the driver but everyone on the road,” the GTSC emphasized. “Please stop speeding—before it stops you.”
