The Town of Ramapo Police Department conducted a targeted traffic enforcement operation focused on pedestrian and school bus safety as part of its ongoing commitment to protecting residents, especially children during morning pickup hours.
According to police, members of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit spent two hours monitoring areas near school bus stops where children and parents are most vulnerable. Officers closely observed both school buses and surrounding passenger vehicles to ensure full compliance with traffic laws and safe driving practices.
During the enforcement detail, nearly 30 tickets were issued for various violations, including cell phone use while driving, driving left of pavement markings, and failing to stop at red lights. Authorities emphasized that such violations significantly increase the risk of crashes, particularly in school zones where reduced speeds, heightened awareness, and strict adherence to traffic controls are critical.
Officials noted that no school buses were observed violating any traffic laws during the operation.
Ramapo Police stated that targeted traffic enforcement efforts will continue throughout the community. Drivers are reminded to remain alert, avoid distractions, obey all posted traffic controls, and exercise patience, especially in areas where children are present. Officials stressed that roadway safety is a shared responsibility and that proactive enforcement plays a key role in preventing accidents before they happen.
