Ramapo Police Department Hosts 10th Annual Awards Breakfast Honoring Excellence in Service

On Thursday, the Ramapo Police Department held its 10th Annual Awards Breakfast, a cherished tradition recognizing the dedication, bravery, and exemplary service of its officers and staff over the past year. The event, hosted at the Crowne Plaza in Suffern, drew a crowd of local officials, law enforcement personnel, and community supporters.

A total of 55 awards were presented in the categories of Excellent Police Service, Honorable Service, Lifesaving, and Unit Citation. Chief Daniel Hyman and Ramapo Town Supervisor Michael Specht addressed the attendees, each underscoring the daily physical and emotional challenges faced by police officers and reaffirming their unwavering support for the department.

Chief Hyman emphasized the critical role of humanity in policing, noting that it is the compassion and discretion of officers that allow them to navigate crises and truly make a difference. He praised the courage and integrity of his team, especially in the face of adversity. Supervisor Specht, speaking on behalf of the Town Board and Chief of Staff Mona Montal, acknowledged the outstanding investigatory work of Detectives Salmon, Youngman, and Quinn, announcing their well-earned promotions to Detective 2nd Grade.

The event was a reflection of the strong support the Ramapo Police Department receives from the Town Board, the Chief of Staff, and village mayors and trustees, many of whom attended to show their appreciation for the officers’ service.

In honor of National Police Week, which pays tribute to fallen officers nationwide, the Crowne Plaza concluded the breakfast with a gesture of gratitude—cookies bearing messages of appreciation for Ramapo’s officers.
