After nearly 24 hours of torrential rain, flooding, and storm-related emergencies, Ramapo Police Chief Daniel Hyman issued a statement thanking the many agencies and volunteers who worked together to protect the community.
Chief Hyman described the past day as “trying,” with repeated bands of heavy rain bringing flooded roadways, road closures, downed trees, and numerous emergency calls across the Town of Ramapo. Despite the challenging conditions, he noted that officers also continued handling significant police incidents while responding to the storm’s impacts.
“The last 24 hours have been trying,” Chief Hyman said. “This period was made easier because of the cooperation we received from our community. Another prime example that policing is a partnership with our community.”
Chief Hyman specifically thanked Town Supervisor Michael Specht, the Ramapo Highway Department, the Department of Public Works, the Town of Ramapo Office of Emergency Preparedness, local fire departments, EMS and paramedics, and Chaverim of Rockland for their dedication and commitment throughout the prolonged storm.
The coordinated response from public safety agencies, highway crews, utility workers, and volunteers helped address dozens of weather-related incidents, including flooded roads, fallen trees, and other hazards, while keeping residents safe during one of the busiest weather events the town has experienced in recent months.
