Ramapo Police Chief Dany Hyman issued a public message highlighting the bravery and professionalism of his department following a recent high-risk armed robbery incident. The crime occurred three weeks ago when a suspect held a knife to a victim’s neck, threatened his life, and stole several personal belongings.
During the investigation, officers identified the suspect’s first name and learned of a young woman who had been at the scene—possibly against her will. Ensuring her safety became the department’s top priority.
Thanks to coordinated efforts involving both on-duty and off-duty officers, police tracked down the woman through interviews, social media, and inter-unit collaboration. She was located safe and unharmed, and the suspect found with her was immediately arrested. He was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. Officers also recovered the stolen items and the knife used in the crime.
Chief Hyman praised the swift, collaborative work of the department’s Lieutenants, Sergeants, Officers, and Detectives, saying their actions exemplify the selfless mission to protect and serve.
“Please take comfort in knowing that we are out there for you, day and night,” Hyman said. “Sleep well, Ramapo. We’re here if you need us.”
