The Ramapo Police Department (RPD) made two arrests for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) during early morning hours over the weekend, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure road safety.
Saturday Incident: Shortly after 1:00 AM on Saturday, an RPD sergeant and an officer conducted a traffic stop for several Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) violations. Upon investigation, they determined that the driver, a 24-year-old male from Nanuet, was intoxicated. He was processed at the RPD station and subsequently released with a court date scheduled at the Town of Ramapo Justice Court.
Sunday Incident: Early Sunday morning, just before 6:00 AM, an RPD officer observed a vehicle stopped at a red light with the driver appearing to be asleep. The officer noted that the vehicle began to move forward while the driver’s eyes remained closed. The officer promptly exited his vehicle and woke the driver before he fully entered the intersection. It was found that the driver, a 28-year-old male from Hillcrest, was also intoxicated. He was arrested, processed at the RPD station, and released with a court date at the Town of Ramapo Justice Court.
These incidents underscore the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in preventing impaired driving. The RPD continues to actively patrol and enforce DWI laws to maintain public safety.
