Ramapo Police arrested a 16-year-old student Friday after a fight broke out inside Suffern High School that resulted in a staff member being assaulted.
According to the Ramapo Police Department, officers responded to reports of a fight in progress involving two students. When school staff attempted to intervene and break up the altercation, one of the students assaulted a staff member.
Faculty, school administrators, and the Ramapo Police Department’s School Resource Officer quickly intervened to bring the situation under control. The School Resource Officer took the student into custody without further incident.
The suspect was transported to Ramapo Police Headquarters and is currently being processed on felony-level charges.
The injured staff member was transported by Faist EMS to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Police say the investigation remains active and additional charges and/or arrests may follow.
The Ramapo Police Department commended the quick response and cooperation of Suffern High School faculty, staff, and security personnel in helping bring the situation under control, adding that the safety of students, educators, and the school community remains a top priority.
