The Ramapo Police Department has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a shooting that left a man seriously injured Friday night.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 17, 2026, officers responded to reports of a shooting at Veloz Barbershop, located at 279 North Main Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 59-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The victim was treated on scene by Rockland Paramedics and Spring Hill EMS before being transported to Westchester Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
Following the shooting, an extensive canvass was conducted, and the suspect—who fled the scene in a vehicle—was later located by a patrol unit from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office in the area of 150 West Eckerson Road. Ramapo Police officers responded and took the 50-year-old suspect into custody without further incident.
The Spring Valley Police Department and the New York State Police assisted at the scene.
Detectives continued the investigation overnight, leading to the recovery of both the vehicle used by the suspect and the firearm involved in the shooting at a separate location. Members of the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted with processing the scene.
The suspect has been charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, and Criminal Use of a Firearm.
He was arraigned before Judge Silva, who set bail at $750,000 cash, $900,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond. The defendant was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending a future court appearance.
Authorities say the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
