Quick Response by Local Emergency Teams Prevent Fire from Ravaging New Square Home on Friday Night

A New Square home was saved from devastation Friday night thanks to the rapid response of local emergency teams right after the Shabbos commenced. The collaborative effort involved New Square Ershte Hilf, New Square Hatzolah, New Square Public Safety and the Hillcrest Fire Department teams who were alerted to the fire by a Hatzolah member. The member noticed the distress calls of two children from the smoke-engulfed residence.

The intervention was initially hampered by the dense smoke until a Public Safety member, also a Stony Point firefighter, arrived with essential firefighting gear. His timely actions allowed the team to control the flames, which originated from a garbage can and spread to the kitchen.

Several volunteers suffered smoke inhalation and received on-site treatment.
