Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Food Truck in Nanuet

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, tragedy struck in Nanuet when a pedestrian was fatally injured in a motor vehicle accident involving a food truck. The incident occurred at approximately 3:05 p.m. at the intersection of Prospect Street and South Lexow Avenue as Monsey Scoop reported.

According to preliminary investigations by the Clarkstown Police Department, the accident unfolded after a 1994 Grumman food truck, driven by Khurram Shahzad, 44, of Albany, experienced a mechanical issue while traveling westbound on Prospect Street. The vehicle stalled, prompting Mr. Shahzad to exit and attempt to address the problem.

Mr. Shahzad asked a friend, a 39-year-old male following him in another vehicle, to assist in maneuvering the truck onto a side street. The friend entered the food truck, placed it in neutral, and began rolling it backward. While Mr. Shahzad stood behind the truck to guide its movement, the vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed to engage, and it struck him.

Emergency responders, including the Clarkstown Police, the Nanuet Community Ambulance Corps, and Rockland Paramedics, arrived quickly to provide aid. Mr. Shahzad was transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Clarkstown Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is actively investigating the circumstances of this tragic event. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident to come forward and contact the department at (845)639-5800.
