The Pearl River Public Library has officially launched a major renovation effort with a ceremonial groundbreaking held today alongside local leaders, administrators, and trustees.
The $20 million Library Renewal Project—funded through a $14.3 million bond referendum overwhelmingly approved by voters in May 2023, as well as grants and capital savings—marks the library’s largest transformation in its history.
The extensive renovations will rehabilitate and modernize the current building, addressing critical space shortages and long-standing accessibility challenges. Once complete, the “extreme makeover” will deliver expanded services, updated facilities, and new programmatic opportunities designed to meet the needs of the Pearl River community for decades to come.
“This project represents an important investment in the future of Pearl River,” library officials said, thanking residents for their continued support and vision in making the project possible.
Among those present at the groundbreaking were Library Director Nancy Shah, Board President Eric Sharrin, trustees Jeannine Clark, Michael McCue, and William Morris, as well as Pearl River School District Superintendent Dr. Marco Pochintesta.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with the goal of creating a modern, accessible, and community-focused library space that will continue to serve as a vital hub for learning, reading, and connection.
