Firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to a second-alarm structure fire at 38 Griffith Place Tuesday afternoon. The fire, reported around 2:00 p.m., tore through a two-story home, with heavy flames visible upon arrival.
EMS treated the homeowner for smoke inhalation. One police officer was also treated for minor smoke inhalation and transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital. Additionally, one firefighter was treated on scene for heat exhaustion.
Mutual aid was provided by the Pearl River Ambulance Corps, Rockland Paramedics Services, the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services, and the following fire departments: Pearl River, Blauvelt, Nanuet, New City, Orangeburg, Piermont, Valley Cottage, and West Nyack.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop the fire may have been fueled by propane.
UPDATE: As of 3:00 p.m., the fire is under control.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Orangetown Police Detective Bureau and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit.
