A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred Sunday afternoon on the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway near Exit 17 in the Town of Stony Point.
According to New York State Police from the Haverstraw barracks, troopers responded at approximately 3:16 p.m. to the scene of the crash involving a 2022 BMW and a 2022 Jeep Compass.
Investigators say both vehicles were traveling south in the left lane when the driver of the Jeep noticed the BMW rapidly approaching from behind. The BMW then entered the visitor center on-ramp in an attempt to pass before re-entering the lane and striking the front driver’s side of the Jeep Compass. The impact caused the BMW to lose control, veer off the roadway, and crash into multiple trees.
The driver and sole occupant of the BMW, identified as Corey Gardner, 29, of Glen Spey, NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Jeep and her passenger were not injured.
Stony Point Fire Department and Stony Point Ambulance Corps responded to the scene along with New York State Police.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the New York State Police in Middletown at (845) 344-5300.
