Students in grades 8 through 11 recently had the unique opportunity to engage with legal experts as part of the Orangetown Youth Court program. Rockland County Supervising Assistant District Attorney Sharleen A. Bailon joined forces with Elizabeth Bracanti, Esq., the legal advisor for the Orangetown Youth Court, and Detective Brandon Myers of the Orangetown Police Department to deliver an insightful session on the workings of the legal system.
During the event, students learned about the role of a prosecutor, the path to becoming one, and what a typical day in the courtroom entails. The session also explored trial strategies and the interplay of various courtroom roles, including prosecutors, judges, and defense attorneys.
The Orangetown Youth Court serves as a hands-on training program designed to educate students about the legal system and its participants, offering a realistic glimpse into the courtroom experience.
District Attorney Tom Walsh expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the program, highlighting its value in providing students with a deeper understanding of the legal process and fostering future interest in law-related careers.
